Son of Thomas Jex-Blake of Burnwell, England, Thomas was educated at Rugby, and at University College, Oxford (BA in first class 1855, DD 1873). He was some time Fellow of Queen’s College, Oxford; Assistant Master at Rugby (1858-68); Principal of Cheltenham College (1868-74); Head Master of Rugby (1874-87); Rector of Avechurch, Redditch (1887); and Dean of Wells (1891).
