Son of William Francis Drummond Jervois (later a lieutenant general), William was educated at Rugby and at Trinity College, Oxford (BA 1876, MA 1878), and was ordained an Anglican deacon 1878, and priest in 1879. He became Vicar of St. Mary Magdalene, Munster Square, London, in 1896. Until his death, he was a member of the committee that compiled The English Hymnal of 1906.
