Introduction

Biography

Frederick was born to Brit­ish par­ents in Cal­cut­ta. He mar­ried three times, to An­nie Bea­trice Pond (died in 1876, a few months af­ter their wed­ding), Lou­ise He­lene Loi­zeaux (1882), and Ma­ry Car­ter Ty­ler (1940).

In England, he worked as a tea tast­er, and was as­so­ci­at­ed with the Ply­mouth Breth­ren. In 1871, he em­i­grated to Amer­i­ca, where he estab­lished a tea import bu­si­ness in New York Ci­ty. In 1881, he moved to Plain­field, New Jersey.
