Iverson was the son of Haldor Iverson and Elevine Thorsten, and husband of Vivian Frazier Thorpe.

He attended the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Georgia, Athens; Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois; Columbia The­o­lo­gi­cal Sem­in­a­ry, Decatur, Georgia; and the University of South Carolina. Ordained a Pres­by­ter­i­an minister, he served in Georgia and South and North Carolina. He helped found the Shenandoah Pres­by­ter­i­an Church in Miami, Florida, serving there from 1927 to 1951, when he retired.
