Ide was edu­cat­ed at Mid­dle­bu­ry Col­lege, Ver­mont.

He held a Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty de­gree, and served pas­tor­ates in Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts; Phil­adel­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia; and Spring­field, Mas­sa­chu­setts.
