Biography

Hyde lost both par­ents an ear­ly age, and grew up with rel­a­tives in Keene, New Hamp­shire.

He was edu­cat­ed at Phil­lips Exe­ter Aca­de­my (1875); Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty (ba­che­lor’s de­gree 1879); Un­ion Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, New York Ci­ty (1879–80); and An­do­ver Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, Newt­on, Mas­sa­chu­setts (1882).

He was or­dained a Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter in 1883, and pas­tored in Pa­ter­son, New Jer­sey (1883–85). He was pre­si­dent of Bow­doin Col­lege, Bruns­wick, Maine (1885–1917).
