Amélie was the daughter of Aimé and Marie Humbert-Droz. In her youth, she was active with the Salvation Army. She was private secretary of Josephine Butler (1876-85), opposed the official regulation of prostitution, and followed her mother in the movement for moral recovery.

She served as secretary (1888-1915), then vice-president (1915-25) of the International Union of the Friends of the Girl and editor of its journal, Le Journal du Bien Public.
