Biography

Hughes was the son of Hughes Mc­Coy Huff­man, Sr., and Ma­ry Vi­o­la Rich.

He at­tend­ed Wal­ter M. Will­iams High School, Bur­ling­ton, North Ca­ro­li­na; Whea­ton Col­lege, Il­li­nois; Nor­thern Bap­tist Se­mi­na­ry, Oak Brook, Il­li­nois; and Nor­thern Il­li­nois Uni­ver­si­ty, De­Kalb, Il­li­nois.

He served as min­is­ter of mu­sic at Christ Church, Oak Brook, Il­li­nois (1965–77); First Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, Gas­to­nia, North Ca­ro­li­na; Ar­ca­dia Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, Ar­ca­dia, Ca­li­for­nia; First Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, Co­vi­na, Ca­li­for­nia (1988); La Ha­bra Pres­by­te­ri­an Church, La Ha­bra, Ca­li­for­nia; and Christ Lu­ther­an Church, West Co­vi­na, Ca­li­for­nia.
