Son of Jacob Fries Hott and Jane Streit, and husband of Carrie Robinson, Hott was a minister in the United Brethren Church. He received a Master of Arts Degree from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pennsylvania, and was licensed to preach in the Virginia Conference in 1879. He also served as principal of the Shenandoah Collegiate Institute (now Shenandoah University), Winchester, Virginia (1887-96). Charles Hott was his brother. His works include:
