Brother of John Hopkins, Edward began his musical career by singing in the choir at the Chapel Royal. He later played the organ at Mitcham, Surrey; St. Peter’s, Islington; and St. Luke’s, Berwick Street. In 1843, he became organist at the Temple Church in London, where he played over half a century. In 1882, the Archbishop of Canterbury awarded him an honorary Doctor of Music. His works include:
