Holden was educated at Liverpool College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (BA 1899, MA 1902). Ordained to the curacy of Walcot in 1899, he became in 1901 a Mission Preacher in connection with the Parochial Missionary Society, and in 1905 Vicar of St. Paul’s, Portman Square, London. He was chairman of the Keswick Convention (1925-29), and visited China as a deputation in 1904. Holden and his wife had tickets to sail from Southampton on the RMS Titanic in 1912, but canceled their travel plans when his wife became ill, sparing them a watery grave.

Holden’s works include:

  1. Lord, We Come Before Thee
  2. Somebody’s Here with an Aching Heart
