Stuart was the son of Edward Hine and Florence Lydia Caistor, and husband of Edith Salmon.
He came to Christ at age 14, and, though perhaps best remembered for his translation of How Great Thou Art, he had a long career as an evangelist, in Ukraine, Poland and Czechoslovakia, and later in Britain.
