Hills was listed as rector of the Protestant Episcopal Mariners’ Church, Detroit, Michigan, in 1850.
An advertisement in an 1895 concert program for the Boston Symphony Orchestra described him as Organist and Choirmaster of Mt. Calvary Church, a pupil of the late Madam Emma Seiler, and of the New York Vocal Institute.
Copyright records show him living in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1902.
