Son of Men­non­ite bi­shop Christ­ian Herr of Pe­quea, Penn­syl­van­ia, Herr lived along Bea­ver Val­ley Pike in Lan­cas­ter Coun­ty, and was or­dained a Men­non­ite preach­er in 1850.
