Biography

William was the son of Gil­bert Heath­cote (Arch­dea­con of Glou­ces­ter) and Ann Bea­don, and hus­band of Eli­za­beth Ma­ry Deane (mar­ried Au­gust 3, 1852).

He was edu­cat­ed at New Col­lege, Ox­ford (BCL 1840). He was for a while Fel­low and Tu­tor at his col­lege; War­den of Rad­ley Col­lege (1851–52); rec­tor of Comp­ton Bas­sett, Wilt­shire; pre­cen­tor of Sal­is­bu­ry Ca­thed­ral; chap­lain to the Bi­shop of Sal­is­bu­ry; and Se­lect Preach­er at Ox­ford.
