De­cem­ber 1793, St. Hel­ens, Win­dle, Lan­cas­ter, Eng­land. Tra­di­tion says he was killed by be­ing thrown from a stage­coach. His fun­er­al ser­mon was preached at the Pres­by­ter­ian Cha­pel in St. Hel­ens on De­cem­ber 13.

Little is known of Hat­ton. He lived on Duke Street, St. Hel­ens, in Win­dle, from which his fa­mous tune gets its name.
