December 1793, St. Helens, Windle, Lancaster, England. His funeral sermon was preached at the Presbyterian Chapel in St. Helens on December 13. Tradition says he was killed by being thrown from a stagecoach.

Little is known of Hatton, except that he lived on Duke Street, St. Helens, in Windle, where his famous tune gets its name.
