Biography

Harmer was the son of Sam­uel Harm­er and Mar­ga­ret Young, and hus­band of Cla­ris­sa N. Har­mer.

He be­came a Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal dea­con in Apr­il 1847 in Wilm­ing­ton, De­la­ware.

He worked in and around Phi­la­del­phia for sev­er­al years be­fore be­ing or­dained in 1855.

He moved to Io­wa in 1857.
