Hankinson was educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (BA 1828, MA 1831), where he won the Seatonian prize for English verse nine times (1831–42). He served as Curate of St. Nicholas Chapel, King’s Lynn, and incumbent of St. Matthew’s Chapel, Denmark Hill. His works include:
