Educated at Baylor University, Waco, Texas (BA), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas (MDiv), Hanks also received honorary doctorate degrees from California Baptist University in Riverside, California, and Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He has worked in the evangelism field most of his adult life, receiving the Stella Ross award for evangelism, working with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and founding the International Evangelism Association of Fort Worth, Texas, and Operation Multiplication.
