Hankinson was e­du­cat­ed at Cor­pus Chris­ti Col­lege, Cam­bridge (BA 1828, MA 1831), where he won the Sea­ton­i­an prize for Eng­lish verse nine times be­tween 1831 and 1842. He served as Cur­ate of St. Ni­cho­las Cha­pel, King’s Lynn, and in­cum­bent of St. Mat­thew’s Cha­pel, Den­mark Hill. His works in­clude:
