Biography

Edwin was the son of E. D. Ham­ner and Mar­tha Eli­za Pi­lant, and hus­band of Sue Smith (mar­ried June 20, 1900).

Edwin’s fam­ily was orig­in­al­ly from Gal­ves­ton, Tex­as, where his fa­ther worked as a den­tist. Ed­win served in Gal­ves­ton as a min­is­ter, and as a free-lance writer for the Gal­ves­ton News, Dal­las News, and Hous­ton Chron­icle.

Edwin and Sue moved to Austin on July 4, 1919, where Ed­win worked for the In­ter­na­tion­al Re­ve­nue De­part­ment and preached for var­ious church­es in neigh­bor­ing com­mun­ities.
