Haas at­tend­ed pub­lic schools in Jef­fer­son Ci­ty, Mis­sou­ri, and grad­u­at­ed from Elm­hurst Coll­ege, near Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois (1883) and Eden The­o­lo­gi­cal Sem­in­ary (1886). He or­gan­ized and served at St. James Church, St. Lou­is, Mis­sou­ri (1886-1903), and served as pas­tor of St. Paul’s Church, Buf­fa­lo, New York (1903-28).
