Greg was educated by Dr. Lant Carpenter in Bristol, and at Ed­in­burgh Un­i­ver­si­ty. He owned Lowerhouse Mill in Bollington, Cheshire, near Macclesfield, and addresses he gave at services conducted for his workers were pub­lished post­hu­mous­ly in 1877 as A Layman’s Legacy.
