Henry was the son of Thomas Greatorex, organist at Westminster Abbey, and husband of artist Eliza Pratt (1819–1897).
He got his early musical training from his father. He emigrated to America in 1839, and played the organ at Center Church and St. John’s Church in Hartford, Connecticut; St. Paul’s Church and Calvary Protestant Episcopal Church, New York City; and (from 1853) in Charleston, South Carolina.
If you know where to get a good picture of Greatorex (head-and-shoulders, at least 200×300 pixels), would you send us an e-mail?
