Gray attended St. Peter’s School in York, and Trinity College at Cambridge University (LLB, LM, MusB, MusD). He served as Director of Music for Wellington College, Berkshire (1883–92) and organist at Trinity College for 37 years, retiring in 1912. He is known for composing cantatas and organ pieces.
