Early 20th Century

We have little data on this composer. We speculate he is Howard T. Googins, born 1871 in Old Orchard, Maine, and listed in the Cumberland, Maine, census in 1920. Much of Googins’ music appears in Maine collections, and Burton Winslow, who wrote the lyrics paired with Googins’ tune Guadalupe, was also from Maine. Also, in 1919, the copyright application for Googins’ arrangement of ’Tis the Star That’s Turned to Gold was submitted by Fannie Orne Perkins of Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
