Marcia was the daugh­ter of John A. Bas­sett and Eu­nice Backus. She mar­ried twice, to Or­son Ro­dol­phus Col­grove (1826–1869) and Eli­jah Good­win (mar­ried 1869).

Marcia was a mem­ber of the Dis­ciples of Christ, and a lead­er of the Chris­tian Wo­men’s Board of Mis­sions. She ed­it­ed the Chris­tian Mo­ni­tor for some time, as well as the Mother’s Monitor, Chris­tian Com­pan­ion (1863–1888), The Am­er­i­can House­wife (1869–1872) and the Chris­tian Wo­man’s Board of Mis­sions’ month­ly Mis­sion­a­ry Tidings.
