Biography

Carl was the son of Carl Lud­wig Trau­gott Glaes­er and Ma­rie Am­a­lie Zie­sche.

He re­ceived his mu­sic­al train­ing first from his fa­ther (a com­pos­er and can­tor at the town church), then at St. Tho­mas’ School in near­by Leip­zig.

In 1813/14, Gläs­er served as a vol­un­teer in the Na­po­le­on­ic Wars. In 1815, he be­came mu­sic di­rect­or in Bar­men, where he al­so taught voice, pi­ano, and vio­lin. He was well known for writ­ing and con­duct­ing cho­ral mu­sic.
