Ganus received musical training at Livingston College in Alabama (now the University of West Alabama). He sang with the Ganus Brothers Quartette from Birmingham, Alabama, in the late 1920s and early 1930s, and with several Vaughan and Stamps-Baxter quartets. Later in life, he taught music in Lakeland, Florida.
