Biography

Henry was the son of Fran­cis Lev­in Fries and Liset­ta Ma­ria Vog­ler, and hus­band of Ro­sa El­vira Mick­ey (mar­ried 1891).

He served as pre­si­dent of the Win­ston-Sa­lem South­bound Rail­road, and as su­per­in­ten­dent of the East Sa­lem (now Fries Me­mor­ial Mo­ra­vi­an) Sun­day School for 40 years.

He al­so served a term in the state le­gis­la­ture; three terms as may­or of Sa­lem, North Ca­ro­li­na; was a found­er of the North Ca­ro­lina Col­lege of Ag­ri­cul­ture and Me­chan­ic Arts (lat­er North Ca­ro­li­na State Uni­vers­i­ty), Ra­leigh; and was one of its trust­ees for a de­cade.
