Biography

Henry was the son of Hen­ry Wat­son Fox.

He was edu­cat­ed at Har­row School and Tri­ni­ty Col­lege, Cam­bridge (BA 1864, 3rd class Class­i­cal Tri­pos; MA 1869).

Ordained in 1869, he was cur­ate of St. Ebbe’s, Ox­ford (1869–73); vi­car of Christ Church, West­min­ster (1873–82); and vi­car of St. Ni­cho­las, Dur­ham (1882–95).

In 1890 he be­came Com­mis­sion­er for Ugan­da, and for Mom­ba­sa, Ken­ya, in 1900. Start­ing in 1895, he served as Sec­re­ta­ry of the Church Mis­sion­ary So­cie­ty. He be­came a pre­ben­da­ry of St. Paul’s, Lon­don, in 1901.
