Biography

Henry was the son of Hen­ry Wil­der Foote I and Fran­ces Anne El­iot, and hus­band of Elea­nor Ty­son Cope (mar­ried June 22, 1903, Ger­man­town, Penn­syl­van­ia).

He was edu­cat­ed at the Rox­bu­ry La­tin School, a pri­vate school, and Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty (AB 1897, AM 1900, STB 1902).

He en­tered the Uni­ta­ri­an min­is­try and served church­es in New Or­leans, Lou­isi­ana; Ann Ar­bor, Mi­chi­gan; Bel­mont, Mas­sa­chu­setts; and Char­lottes­ville, Vir­gin­ia.

From 1914–1924 he was an as­sist­ant pro­fess­or at the Har­vard Di­vi­ni­ty School, where he gave a course on the his­to­ry of Chris­tian hym­no­dy.
