Biography

Arthur was the son of Ca­leb Foote and Ma­ry Wild­er White, bro­ther of Hen­ry Wil­der Foote, and hus­band of Kate N. Knowl­ton.

Educated at Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty, he played the or­gan at the First Church (Uni­ta­ri­an) in Bos­ton for 32 years, start­ing in 1878.

Foote was a found­ing mem­ber of the Am­er­ican Guild of Or­gan­ists, and a mem­ber of the Am­er­ican Aca­de­my of Arts and Sci­enc­es and the Am­er­ican Aca­de­my of Arts and Let­ters.
