Biography

Theodore was the son of Wal­ter An­drew Ferris and Eva R. Park­er.

He was edu­cat­ed at Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty (AB 1929) and the Ge­ne­ral Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry (GTS), New York Ci­ty (BD 1933).

Ferris was or­dained an Epis­co­pal dea­con in 1933, and priest the next year.

He taught at the GTS; was as­sist­ant rec­tor at Grace Church, New York Ci­ty (1933–37); rec­tor of Em­ma­nu­el Church, Bal­ti­more, Ma­ry­land (1937–42); and rec­tor of Tri­ni­ty Church, Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts (1942–72).

From 1943–64, he was an ad­junct in­struct­or in ho­mi­le­tics at the Epis­co­pal The­ol­o­gi­cal School, Cam­bridge, Mas­sa­chu­setts.
