As a youth, Ev­ans worked in a rib­bon fac­to­ry. About 1778, he joined the con­gre­ga­tion at Cov­en­try, over which George Bur­der was pas­tor. Ev­ans be­gan preach­ing at Foles­hill, near Co­ven­try, in 1782, and in 1795 he be­gan his min­is­try there, which last­ed un­til his death. He was or­dained on April 4, 1797. Two bi­o­graph­ic­al no­tic­es of him ap­peared in the Evan­gel­ic­al Mag­az­ine (Oc­to­ber 1809 and March 1847).
