At age nine, Ett became a chorister in a Benedictine abbey.
He studied at the Wilhelm Gymnasium and Elector’s School in Munich, and in 1816, was appointed organist at St. Michael’s Church in Munich, where he remained until his death.
Both Eresing and Munich have streets bearing his name.
