Elizabeth was the daugh­ter of Lu­ther Em­er­son and Mary Jane Gove. She was named af­ter her pa­ter­nal aunt.

In 1865, Eliz­a­beth was liv­ing with her par­ents in New­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts; in 1900 with them in Hyde Park, Mas­sa­chu­setts; and in 1910 she was still liv­ing with her fa­ther in Hyde Park.
