Biography

Effie was the daugh­ter of Ben­ja­min Frank­lin Smith and Er­nest­ine May Quill­en, and wife of Me­tho­dist min­is­ter Jo­seph Blake­more Ely.

She was edu­cat­ed at Sul­lins Col­lege, Bris­tol, Tenn­es­see (school closed in 1976), and Pea­bo­dy Nor­mal Col­lege, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see.
