Emily was the daugh­ter of Ed­ward Bi­shop El­li­ott, rec­tor of St. Mark’s Church in Brigh­ton. Her aunt was hym­nist Char­lotte Ell­io­tt.

She ed­it­ed The Church Mis­sion­a­ry Ju­ve­nile In­struc­tor for six years.
