Mary was the daugh­ter of Mark Bak­er and Ab­i­gail Bar­nard Am­brose.

She mar­ried three times, to George Wash­ing­ton Glov­er (1843), Dan­i­el Pat­ter­son (1883), and Asa Gil­bert Ed­dy (1877).

She is re­mem­bered as the found­er of the Church of Christ, Sci­en­tist, de­no­mi­na­tion.
