Biography

Marion was the son of Ge­ne­ral Fran­cis Ma­ri­on East­er­ling and Do­ra Jane John­son, and hus­band of Ag­nes Hughes.

He wrote ov­er 300 Gos­pel songs. John­ny Cash re­cord­ed When He Reached Down His Hand for Me on his last CD (My Ma­ma’s Hymn Book) be­fore his death.

When I Wake Up to Sleep No More was one of the most po­pu­lar songs in the Unit­ed States in the 1970’s. It was twice nom­in­at­ed for the Dove Award, once in the Gos­pel field and lat­er in the Blue­grass ca­te­go­ry.
