Son of William East of St. Martin’s parish, Westminster, John attended St. Edmund Hall, Oxford (1811–16, BA 1816, MA 1819). He served as Rector of Crosscombe, Somerset (1828), and Rector of St. Michael’s, Bath (1843). His works include:
