Son of George Duffield, Jr., Samuel graduated from Yale College in 1863. In 1866 he was licensed, and in 1867 ordained, as a Presbyterian minister. He served at churches in Bergen, New Jersey; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Altoona, Pennsylvania; and in 1881 became pastor of the Westminster Church, Bloomfield, New Jersey, where he stayed until his death. His wife was Harriet Hayward Duffield (1847-1906). Duffield’s works include:
