Biography

William was the son of James Dick­son of Ed­in­burgh.

He was edu­cat­ed at the High School and Uni­ver­si­ty of Ed­in­burgh, then en­tered his fa­ther’s bu­si­ness.

He was a pro­mi­nent mem­ber of the Free Church of Scot­land, and took a great in­ter­est in Sab­bath School work, ed­it­ing The Free Church Child­ren’s Re­cord for ov­er 30 years.

Starting in 1842, he wrote an an­nu­al New Year’s hymn.
