Biography

Arthur was the son of George D­eter and Sa­rah E. Dye.

He came to Christ at age 20, while at­tend­ing Nor­mal School in Par­sons, Kan­sas. He at­tend­ed Bay­lor Uni­ver­si­ty, Wa­co, Tex­as (1889–94), and Will­iam Jew­ell Col­lege, Li­ber­ty, Mis­sou­ri (1895–96).

He spent one year at Lou­is­ville Se­mi­na­ry and three at Ro­ches­ter Se­mi­na­ry, gra­du­at­ing from Ro­ches­ter in May 1891.

The For­eign Mis­sion Board for Bra­zil ap­point­ed him in 1891, and he spent four de­cades as a mis­sion­ary in Rio de Jan­ie­ro.
