Biography

Henry is said to have joined the choir of the local Baptist chapel at such an early age that he had to stand on the seat of his pew while singing so his voice could be heard.

Dennis taught music, played the organ at a chapel in Redruth, Cornwall, and was for a long time the director, conductor and arranger for the Redruth Amateur Operatic Society.

He spent the last four decades years of his life in Hugglescote, Leicestershire, on a farm which had been in his mother’s family’s possession for over two centuries.

He was a prominent member of the Baptist community there, and wrote a number of tunes and other pieces which were published by Novello & Company.

Dennis Street in Hugglescote is named after him.
