De Fluiter’s family emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1882. When Henry grew up, he became an apprentice sign painter. His life changed, though, after attending a revival by Dwight Moody and Ira Sankey in Cleveland. Inspired by that experience, he enrolled at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and went on to a career in evangelism.
