Biography

An in­ter­na­tion­al­ly pub­lished writ­er of hymn texts and tunes, Da­mon was (as of 2016) pas­tor of First Un­it­ed Me­tho­dist Church, Rich­mond, Ca­li­for­nia.

He al­so served as ad­junct fa­cul­ty in church mu­sic at the Pa­ci­fic School of Re­li­gion in Ber­kel­ey, Ca­li­for­nia, and played pi­ano in clubs in the San Fran­cis­co area and stu­died pi­ano and com­po­si­tion with Ri­chard Hind­man.

He has toured Zim­bab­we with the Ju­bil­ate Choir from the Pa­ci­fic North­west Con­fer­ence of the Unit­ed Me­tho­dist Church, and (as of 2016) was work­ing on a col­lect­ion of Af­ri­can songs with Pat­rick Mat­si­ken­yi­ri, re­tired Pro­fess­or of Church Mu­sic, Af­ri­ca Uni­ver­si­ty, Zim­bab­we.

Damon is a life mem­ber of the Hymn So­cie­ty in the Un­it­ed States and Ca­na­da, and is a mem­ber of the Fel­lows­hip of Un­it­ed Meth­odi­sts in Mu­sic and Wor­ship Arts. Da­mon’s hymns have been in­clud­ed in The Faith We Sing, the Cha­lice Hym­nal, the New Cen­tu­ry Hym­nal, Voic­es Un­it­ed, Hym­nal 21 and oth­ers.
