Cutts earned de­grees from Clare Col­lege at Cam­bridge Un­i­ver­si­ty (BA 1961, MA 1965), and stu­died the­ol­o­gy at Mans­field Col­lege, Ox­ford Un­i­ver­si­ty (BA 1963). He played the or­gan at Unit­ed Re­form church­es, and taught mu­sic at Hud­ders­field’s Col­lege of Tech­nol­o­gy and Oast­ler Coll­ege, and Bret­ton Hall Col­lege in Wake­field. As of 1993, he was or­gan­ist and mu­sic di­rect­or at the First Unit­ed Meth­od­ist Church in Wa­ter­town, Mass­a­chu­setts, and was on the fa­cul­ty of An­do­ver Newt­on The­o­lo­gi­cal Sem­in­a­ry, New­ton Centre, Mass­a­chu­setts.
